Introduction
The Silas Project exists to support mature, proven Turkish men and women in their service to Christian activities within Turkey, through prayer and finance. It is a major activity of Firm Foundation Trust, which also publishes Turkish Christian books and DVDs in Turkey to help Christians there grow and mature.
Turkey is still the most unreached nation in the world, with a population of over 70 million (25% under the age of 16). While there are sizable groups of ethnic Armenian, Greek, and Syriac Orthodox Christians, there are fewer than 3,000 ethnic Turkish and Kurdish evangelical believers in the country.
What distinguishes the Silas Project from the activities of other Christian organisations in Turkey is the following.
Ever more frequently, highly qualified Turkish Christian men and women want to give their full time and energy to building up the Church and spreading the Christian Gospel within Turkey. However, lack of continuing financial support makes it extremely difficult for them to function as full time Christian workers. Currently the very small Christian community in Turkey can provide only partial local support.
Most evangelical churches are very new, with little understanding of how to live out the Christian life in a secular Islamic country such as Turkey. Preaching, teaching, mentoring, and encouraging new believers, in small groups as well as in weekly services, is a big need. We know of many gifted Turkish men and women who wish to meet this need through full-time work. With your help we can offer assistance and enable them to be active in the way our Supported Workers are.
Please consider if God is prompting you to join with us in supporting such Turkish Christian workers. If so, please send us your name and address details so that we can add you to our email newsletter circulation list. Should you wish to contribute to funding, you will find full details of how to do so on our Donations page.
